Walk to the Hill is an annual event that gathers attorneys, law students, and advocates to urge their legislators to support civil legal aid by fully funding the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation (MLAC)‘s line-item request.
For Fiscal Year 2025, MLAC is asking the Massachusetts State Legislature for $55 million to support 16 civil legal aid organizations across the Commonwealth.
In 2024, the EJC will be hosting our 25th Walk to the Hill—and our first Walk to the Hill in the Massachusetts State House since 2020!

Volunteer at the Walk
Each year, we’re proud to have the participation of hundreds of legal professionals and soon-to-be professionals from firms and law schools around the state. Volunteer captains – attorneys and law students – help make this possible. Each captain’s main task is to recruit colleagues or classmates to ‘Walk to the Hill’ on January 25 and participate in our annual lobby day.
Interested in being the captain for your firm or school? Email Annie Donovan, EJC Legislative Campaign Associate, for more information: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Talk to the Hill 2023
On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Governor Maura Healey, Supreme Judicial Court Chief Justice Kimberly Budd, bar association leaders, and legal aid clients joined a virtual gathering of more than 1,000 people for Talk to the Hill. This virtual event advocated for $49 million to fund civil legal aid in the FY24 Massachusetts state budget.
