Fiscal Year 2012
In the only initiative of its kind in the country, some of the most prominent representatives of the Massachusetts legal community have joined together again this year to urge Governor Patrick and the legislature to maintain funding for civil legal aid in the Commonwealth’s FY12 budget.
General Counsel Letter
On March 3, general counsel from 93 corporations and institutions doing business in Massachusetts delivered a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray (an earlier version was delivered to Governor Patrick in fall 2010), with copies sent to all legislators. This initiative began in 2000 with 15 signatories. Copies were sent to all legislators.
Managing Partners Letter
On March 15, the managing partners of 35 Massachusetts law firms delivered a letter to House Speaker Robert DeLeo and Senate President Therese Murray, along with House Ways and Means Committee Chair Brian Dempsey and Senate Ways and Means Committee Chair Stephen M. Brewer. Copies were sent to all legislators.
Law School Deans Letter
On April 28, the deans of eight Massachusetts law schools delivered a letter to Governor Patrick, House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Senate President Therese Murray, along with House Ways and Means Committee Chair Brian Dempsey and Senate Ways and Means Committee Chair Stephen M. Brewer. Copies were sent to all Senators.
